Using Mapping Technology for Instruction and Research

Saturday, April 18, 2020

8:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M.

Location: Conference Hotel

This workshop will investigate two simple and powerful web-based mapping technologies suitable for instruction and research. StoryMapJS supports descriptive maps that incorporate texts, images, and videos. Each StoryMap arranges a series of locations on a map that, taken together, construct a narrative that others can follow online. Google My Maps allows the construction of personalized maps incorporating points, lines, and polygons, as well as links, images, and videos. This powerful web mapping software is quick to learn and supports many features typically found in sophisticated Geographic Information Systems software.

Tim Clarke (Muhlenberg College) is a librarian and instructional designer who builds things on the web (including maps) with educators, researchers, and students.

Additional information will be sent to workshop registrants prior to the conference.
